It was now, and nell stood beneath the factory lights, seven months pregnant, staring directly at callum whitlock without fear.

They told me you lost the baby, callum whispered, his voice cracking beneath the weight of those old lies.

They told me you signed everything, nell replied, placing one trembling hand protectively over her stomach.

Ask your sister why i had to hide, mr. whitlock, she said, refusing to look away from him.

Callum froze when nell revealed the child was his, remembering the night beneath the collapsing scaffold.

How far along are you, nell? he asked, barely breathing as seven months suddenly became real before him.

Seven months, she answered. yours. it was yours in the emergency room, too, that terrible night.

Callum staggered backward, because cordelia had told him nell lost their child and left the state forever.

I was in a coma for nine weeks, he whispered, remembering nothing beyond those cold hospital ceilings.

When i woke up, cordelia told me you'd disappeared, callum continued, his hands beginning to shake uncontrollably.

Nell stepped closer and whispered, i've been forty feet under your feet for four months, mr. whitlock.

Callum stared toward the factory floor, suddenly realizing nell had been working beneath him without his knowledge.

Nell, you are not on this shift, shouted a supervisor. where is delorey, and who authorized you here?

Callum raised his hand, but nell stopped him. don't, she warned. this is a shakedown, and they know you're weak.

She wants a number, nell continued, watching cordelia approach. she picked the exact hour when you're weakest.

Cordelia smiled coldly and said, your sister decides who gets close to you, mr. whitlock, whether you like it.

Callum turned toward cordelia, finally demanding, then ask yourself why you decided who was allowed to love me.

Silence spread across the factory as cordelia's confidence vanished beneath callum's accusing stare.

The apartment on fel street suddenly mattered, because callum remembered putting that unit in nell's name during february.

I put that unit in your name, callum said. what happened to it after i disappeared from your life?

Nell answered quietly, two men arrived with a locksmith at seven that morning, march eleventh.

The papers claimed the apartment had reverted to the company as a corporate asset, signed by you personally.

I never signed anything in march, callum shouted. i couldn't even hold a pen during those weeks.

Cordelia interrupted, claiming company authority gave her control, but callum finally understood what the power of attorney meant.

You had authority over company assets, cordelia insisted, trying to sound certain while everyone watched her carefully.

Callum stepped closer and asked, then why did you use my name while i was unconscious in that hospital?

Cordelia's face hardened, but nell revealed another document, whispering, this is just the beginning tonight.

Callum took the document, finally seeing proof that his sister had stolen far more than an apartment from him.

They Opened the Necklace at Her Funeral—and Found the Evidence She Left Behindd
The funeral hall fell silent when Carolyn pointed toward Evelyn and shouted, “Stop her, she stole my mother’s necklace.” Evelyn froze beside the coffin, clutching the necklace carefully, remembering the promise Mrs. Beaumont made before dying. “Mrs. Beaumont gave this to me herself,” Evelyn said, while Carolyn stepped forward with furious eyes. “Then explain it to the police,” Carolyn snapped, reaching toward the necklace as several relatives began whispering. Evelyn pulled back gently and answered, “Your mother specifically told me not to surrender it before her service.” Carolyn’s face hardened instantly, and she shouted, “You were staff, Evelyn, never family, so stop pretending you belong here.” “I never confused those things,” Evelyn replied quietly, refusing to lower her eyes despite everyone watching. Carolyn immediately called the police and reported that Evelyn had stolen valuable property from the Beaumont family estate. Within minutes, an officer entered the room and asked Evelyn to explain exactly how she obtained the necklace. Evelyn handed him a sealed envelope and said, “She told me to keep this with the necklace.” Carolyn grabbed for it, but Evelyn stepped away and firmly replied, “No, she said the lawyer must open it.” The officer examined the envelope carefully before asking, “Why would your employer leave something like this behind?” Evelyn answered, “Because she knew someone might accuse me, and she wanted the truth protected until everyone gathered.” Carolyn scoffed loudly, saying, “This is ridiculous, she is manipulating everyone while stealing from my mother’s estate.” Then the officer noticed handwriting across the envelope, instructing witnesses to open the necklace after the funeral service. Carolyn’s confidence vanished when the officer said, “We need to follow the deceased’s written instructions before making arrests.” Evelyn carefully opened the necklace compartment and revealed a tiny folded card hidden behind the clasp. Carolyn whispered, “That could be anything,” while several relatives leaned closer, desperate to discover its contents. Evelyn unfolded the card and began reading aloud, “If you are hearing this, then I am already gone.” Carolyn suddenly shouted, “Turn that off,” but Evelyn continued reading without breaking her calm expression. The message revealed that Evelyn was the only person Mrs. Beaumont still trusted completely during her final months. Carolyn stared at her mother’s coffin as the recording continued, revealing concerns about suspicious financial documents. Mrs. Beaumont’s voice instructed Evelyn to show Daniel the red folder hidden inside the study desk. Carolyn immediately protested, “Nobody enters my mother’s room,” but the officer replied, “If the letter says otherwise, we investigate.” The red folder was found moments later, containing transfer requests carrying signatures that appeared suspiciously altered. Daniel compared the documents with older records and quietly said, “These signatures were forged.” Carolyn finally whispered, “I was protecting what belonged to this family,” but nobody believed her explanation anymore. The officer stepped forward and said, “Carolyn, you need to come with us while we investigate these documents.” Evelyn watched silently, remembering her promise, while Carolyn was escorted away beneath the stunned relatives’ eyes. Before leaving, Evelyn touched the necklace and whispered, “I promised her I would wait until everyone heard the truth.” Daniel looked at Evelyn and smiled sadly, saying, “Looks like she trusted the right person after all.”
